How is manipulation performed?

 

Spinal manipulation therapy is a manual procedure that utilizes the highly refined skills developed during the intensive years of chiropractic education. The Primary Spine Practititioner (PSP) typically uses his/her hands to manipulate the joints of the body, particularly the spine, in order to reduce pain, and restore or enhance joint function. Spinal manipulation is a highly controlled procedure that rarely causes discomfort. The PSP adapts the procedure to meet the specific needs of each patient. Patients often note positive changes in their symptoms immediately following treatment. There are other manipulative techniques available upon request. How is primary spine care provided?

 

The majority of the most clinical and cost effective treatments for spine-related disorders involve manual therapies in combination with targeted or general exercise.  Depending on your specific pain generators and perpetuating factors, there could be any of a variety of manual or hands-on therapies provided in conjunction with targeted exercise.
